Sturgis Hydroelectric Project
The Sturgis Hydroelectric Project began producing electricity for the City of Sturgis in 1911. It was Michigan's first municipal water power plant. The reservoir created upstream resulted in the need to raise the Langley Covered Bridge eight feet higher. Today, the dam produces renewable, clean energy for 1000 Sturgis households.
