Part of a series of monumental "brushstroke" sculptures begun in the 1980s, Brushstroke Group stretches 29 feet into the air. As a pioneer of the Pop Art movement, Roy Lichtenstein was influenced by popular advertising and comic book images. The brushstroke was one of his frequent motifs.
The painted aluminum sculpture was installed here in 2005. It is on loan from the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, courtesy Duane Morris LLP, with the assistance of the Philadelphia Museum of art and the Fairmount Park Art Association (now the Association for Public Art).
