This site possesses national significance
in commemorating the history of the
United States of America
with its formal symmetry and grand central cascade, this park is among the finest examples of Neoclassical landscape design in the nation. Built by the U.S. government between 1912 and 1916, it was designed by George Burnap, Horace Beaslee and Furruccio Vitale, with innovative concrete construction by John J. Early.
