1. Fisk University Marker
Inscription. Fisk University was founded in Nashville in January of 1866 on the former site of a civil war barracks. In the years since its inception, Fisk has played a leading role in the education and advancement of African-Americans nationwide, with a strong focus on business, science, and the liberal arts. Fisk faculty and alumni have been among America's intellectual, artistic, and civic leaders in every generation since the university's beginnings.
