(English translation:)

The Dutch architect Michel de Klerk is regarded as the most important of the Amsterdam School architectural movement. His building “Het Schip” on the Spaarndammerplantsoen and the De Dageraad complex, in collaboration with Piet Kramer, on Burgemeester Tellegenstraat are seen as the most characteristic examples of De Stijl. The nephew of the great architect Pierre Cuypers, Eduard Cuypers, saw one of de Klerk’s drawings in 1898 and immediately recognized his talent. The boy joined Cuypers’ architectural office as the youngest employee, became an assistant draftsman and over the years was given more and more responsibilities.
