1. Abraham van Karnebeek Marker
Hij was een Nederlands jurist, diplomaat en conservatief- liberaal politicus. Hij was minister van Buitenlandse Zaken van 1885 tot 1888. In 1909 werd hij benoemd tot Minister van Staat. Van Karnebeek leefde in een interessante tijd. Hij zat in Washington tijdens de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog. Hij maakte de Frans Duitse oorlog, de Commune van Parijs en de Duitse eenwording mee. Een hoogtepunt in zijn loop- baan was de organisatie van de eerste Vredesconferentie van Den Haag in 1899.

He was a Dutch lawyer, diplomat and conservative-liberal politician. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1885 to 1888. In 1909 he was appointed Minister of State. Van Karnebeek lived in an interesting time. He was in Washington during the American Civil War, and he experienced the Franco-Prussian War, the Paris Commune and German unification. A highlight of his career was the organization of the first Peace Conference in The Hague 1899.

On his efforts towards peace: A highlight in his career was the organization (plus vice-chairmanship) of the first Peace Conference in The Hague in 1899. In 1904 he became chairman of the Carnegie Foundation and thus prepared the arrival of the Vredespaleis (Peace Palace). Together with Tobias Asser , he committed himself to the establishment of the Hague Academy of International Law , which was actually founded in 1914.
