Joseph Henri Teixeira de Mattos (1856-1908)

Hij was een Nederlandse beeldhouwer en schilder. Hij volgde les aan de Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. Daar was hij leerling van onder meer August Allebι. Bekend van hem zijn de dierfiguren waarvoor hij inspiratie opdeed in Artis (1881- 1892) en de Londense dierentuin, de London Zoo (1892-1899).

Henri Teixeira de Mattos was a Dutch sculptor and painter. He attended classes at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (“State Academy of Fine Arts”) in Amsterdam. There he was a student of, among others, August Allebι. He is known for the animal figures for which he found inspiration in Artis (1881-1892) and the London Zoo (1892-1899).
