Inscription. [Top plaque] In memory of John and Sarah Swaney, pioneers of this community whose generosity made this school possible. Class of 1910

[Bottom plaque] Site of first consolidated grade and high school formed in Illinois – built 1906-7

In 1906 the one room school districts of Clear Creek, Center and Mathis voted to form the Consolidated District No. 532. A three-story brick building was erected housing eight elementary grades and four years of high school. A four year high school course of study was offered, fully accredited for entrance into our state university. Capt. John Swaney donated the 24 acre campus and the school was named after him. The Swaney Alumni Association erected this marker – 1978
