In the beginning (in translation): This important educational center arose on the occasion of the establishment of the headquarters of the Spanish Court in Madrid. It was founded by the Society of Jesus on a site donated by Felipe II's governess, Leonor Mascareñas in 1560, where the houses of the Vera family were, where San Isidro dug a well. In this place, today the Collegiate Church of San Isidro, the first mass was celebrated with the assistance of Felipe II on January 25, 1567 and, next to him, the Colegio de la Compañía de Jesús, opened in 1572, of which his students were the Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo and Pedro Calderón de la Barca from Madrid.(Submitted on January 10, 2023.)
