1. Tabor Log School Marker

Inscription. In the spring of 1873 Tabor's first schoolhouse was built. Logs were cut and hauled from the timber near the Missouri River to erect the building, measuring 18' x 24'. Josef Zitka, the first teacher, received a salary of $20 per month. There were 30 pupils the first year and school was taught for only three months.

Renovation of the schoolhouse was a Tabor Jaycee's project for Tabors centennial in 1972. It is now the focal point of the Vancura Memorial Park, owned and managed by the Czech Heritage Preservation Society.
