Inscription. Believed to have been built in 1892, this home became known as the Carlile House after Charles and Clara Belle Carlile purchased it in 1902. The home next door was built at the same time, with the same plans, and is a “twin home” to the Carlile House.

The Carliles frequently opened their home as a social gathering place for meetings, card games, and musical performances. Carlile continued to live in the house until his death in July 1961. It was later sole to Jack Vidano, who planned to erect an office building on the site. Meanwhile, he attempted to rent it, but could not because the house did not meet the building code. The City of Novato bought the house in 1971 as part of a proposed civic center plan.

It has since been restored and renovated and currently serves as the home to the Novato Chamber of Commerce.
