1. Adamsville Marker
Inscription. The Town of Adamsville was located approximately ˝ mile west of this location. Founded in 1849 and named after Dr. David Adams, Adamsville became the county seat of the newly formed Stanislaus County on June 10, 1854. County government remained here until October 20, 1854 when it was moved to Empire City. No visible evidence of the town remains.
 
Erected 1990 by E Clampus Vitus Estanislao Chapter #58.

"June 10, 1854. The first county election was held and Adamsville was selected as the county seat by thirty votes over Empire City. Adamsville was founded in 1849 by the county's first practicing physician, Dr. David Adams, and had a hotel, ferry and a few scattered residences. H.W. Wallis was elected County Judge; William D. Kirk as County Sheriff; Robert McGarvey as Clerk and Recorder; and S.P. Scaniker as District Attorney."
