An Orchard in the City
Photographed By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), January 13, 2023
Two centuries ago, there was a thriving fruit orchard on this land, but it was lost to nature and neglect over the decades. Since 2011, the Farm at Bartram's Garden has brought a 21st century orchard to life with the help of the Philadelphia Orchard Project (POP). POP has partnered with the Farm to plant over 110 fruit and nut trees and provide education programs about orchard care. The Bartram's Garden orchard is maintained by the Farm partners and its yields will supplement other produce grown and distributed through this partnership to the Southwest Philadelphia community.
