Pieter Philip van Bosse 1809-1879

Belangrijk liberaal politicus die tussen 1848 en 1871 in zes kabinetten minister van Financiλn was. Hij liberaliseerde als minister onder Thorbecke de handel en scheepvaart. Zijn wet tot afschaffing van het dagbladzegel in 1869 betekende een grote stimulans voor de verschijning van kranten. In 1870 was hij verantwoordelijk voor de wijziging van de Postwet 1850, waardoor in Nederland de briefkaart kon worden ingevoerd.

(English translation:)

Important liberal politician who was Minister of Finance in six cabinets between 1848 and 1871. As a minister under Thorbecke, he liberalized trade and shipping. His law abolishing the newspaper stamp in 1869 gave a great boost to newspaper circulation. In 1870 he was responsible for amending the Postal Act 1850, which allowed the introduction of postcards in the Netherlands.
