Natchez Children's Home
On March 12, 1816, a group of prominent women in the Natchez area formed the "Female Charitable Society.” Their goal was to house, educate, and care for children who had been orphaned within the Mississippi Territory. The Society established and built the Natchez Academy in 1816 and the Natchez Orphan Asylum in 1822. Changing its name to the Natchez Children's Home in 1985, this facility was certified by the Mississippi Secretary of State as the oldest nonprofit organization in Mississippi.
