1. The 1982 World's Fair Walking Tour Marker

Inscription. Built in 1916 for Knoxville's Littlefield and Steere Candy Company, which enjoyed several years of prosperity with an international trade, the Candy Factory is an example of the World's Fair making creative use of old buildings. The Fair made the forgotten building a candy factory again, and it became a popular center of activity featuring shops, restaurants, and a lofty cocktail lounge. After several years as a city-sponsored arts center, the Candy Factory became mostly residential in 2007 and now features retail as well.

To the northwest along 11th Street are seven modest-sized wooden Victorian houses, mostly from the 1880s and 1890s. Some were scheduled for demolition just before the Fair, but the preservationist mindset brought them new use as art shops and exhibit spaces. The one at the southwestern corner became the Budweiser Beer Garden, with beer sales on its spacious back porch overlooking the Clydesdale stables along Clinch Avenue.
