1. Thomas Brown House Marker
Inscription. Thomas Brown (1883-1946) purchased this lot in 1938 from Sam Hendrickson, Clinton's most prolific pearl hunter. Mr. Brown was a telegraph operator for Southern Railway and built this home in 1940 so that he could walk home for lunch from his work station in the bay window of the train depot. The mounting stones in the front yard came from the Young Mansion of Eagle Bend, built in the 1860's. The railing on the back porch is fencing that surrounded the 1890 Anderson County courthouse. The house has also been the home of Thomas Brown's descendants, including his son Otho Franklin Brown and Maude Worthington Brown, and his granddaughter, Cathy Franklin Brown, the first female alderman and mayor for the city of Clinton.
