The Italianate architecture of this building was originally highlighted by two very large bracketed cornices that bore the name G. J. Volz. Godfrey John Volz operated a successful restaurant on the first floor of the building and offered rooms on the second floor.
The United States Post Office and the Ohio Electric Power Company have been tenants of this building.
