Beacon Hill in Boston in Suffolk County, Massachusetts — The American Northeast (New England)
Acorn Street
In the early 19th century, many well-to-do families built row houses between and on the sites of once spacious estates. Servants and tradesmen, who found jobs within the wealthy houses, lived conveniently nearby, often, according to local folklore, on Acorn Street in these smaller versions of Chestnut Street houses.
Nearby Branch Street, known as Kitchen Street in the early decades of the 1800s, contained kitchens adjacent to the rear of Beacon and Chestnut Street homes.
Erected by Boston 200. (Marker Number BH19.)
