Beacon Hill

29A Chestnut Street, built about 1800, is thought to be the first house of the Mt. Vernon Proprietors, a development syndicate. It has features typical of the earliest building period: side entrance dating from the time when houses had surrounding gardens, and brick laid in Flemish bond. The rounded by on the street elevation was added about 1817.
The purple glass panes in the bay windows are a treasured "accident," a result of excess manganese used in glass panes shipped from London.
