Inscription.
In 1965, the Borens made Upland, Indiana their home when they brought The Pierce Governor Company, Inc. to town. Labor disputes in Anderson, Indiana, prompted this move and it was the initiative and generosity of the people of Upland who encouraged the Borens to relocate here.

Since coming to Upland over 50 years ago, the Borens have positively impacted the town in many ways. In addition to bringing manufacturing jobs to Upland, the Borens contributed generously to Upland's causes and needs. LaRita started The Greenhouse Day Care Center, and founded the Chanticleer restaurant that residents enjoyed for years. They assisted in developing the Upland softball and baseball diamonds on which hundreds of children have played. LaRita also began a pre-school program known as Kiddie Kampus that is still in existence today.

Through The Boren Foundation, Inc., Leland and LaRita have assisted Upland schools and organizations, as well as others throughout Grant County. Focusing on education, children, and the arts they have enriched the lives of countless individuals in the area.

A landmark in the Upland area is the Boren farm with the pink barns. Though the color of the barns was meant to represent the color of the soil in Oklahoma- LaRita's home state-it is undeniable that Upland truly became their home.
