Rick and Cindy Wright

Rick and Cindy Wright. . Rick and Cindy (Overman) Wright have spent their adult lives living in and serving the Upland community. They are both originally from the area; Rick went to Mississinewa High School and Cindy went to Eastbrook High School, both graduating in 1969. They married in 1972 and decided to make Upland their home., Rick was a member of the Upland Jaycees from 1974-76 until it disbanded. He was then asked to join the Upland Lions Club in October 1976. Cindy was the charter President of the Upland Lioness Club in 1983 until Lions International opened up membership to women in 1991. She and other Lionesses joined the Lions Club at that time. Rick's first project as a Lion was as chairman of the Upland Labor Day parade in 1979, and he and Cindy have chaired the event ever since., Cindy was a charter member of Our Town Upland in 1992 and was part of bringing the Depot back to Upland. Rick worked with her in preparing the building for return and setting it in Depot Park. Rick found the 1923 Pennsylvania Steel Caboose that sits in Depot Park in Carlisle, Ohio Historical Park and worked with the Town of Upland to move it to Depot Park in 2009., Cindy worked together with Nancy Gore in establishing the Upland Area Historical Society in 1997. The UHS set up the Depot museum and designed the History Wall in the park. They decorate the Depot every year for Christmas, maintain the museum, and have it open during the summer months for tours. Cindy has been on the Olde Tyme Christmas committee since 1992 and on the Blooms-N-Berries Festival committee since it began in 2001., Cindy also co-chaired with Nancy Gore in establishing the Upland Area Greenways Association, Inc. in 2000 and assisted in re-organizing the Association, getting it incorporated in 2014., Cindy worked with the Upland Lions Club to find a fundraiser to help the community. She found that a local resident was selling his Hawaiian Shave Ice business and after a lot of research, the club took this rewarding project. Since the summer of 2007, the Upland Lions Club has been able to do a lot more for the Town of Upland and its residents with those proceeds., Both Cindy and Rick have been co-organizers with other Lions members for the Upland Senior Citizens Activity Center and the Eastbrook Elementary Backpack Program. Cindy was the District Coordinator for over 300 Girl Scouts in the Eastbrook School System from 1979 to 1992, leading up to three troops a year., Cindy worked as a bookkeeper for 23 years, retiring after 13 years as a legal secretary. Rick retired from Chrysler in Kokomo., Since the Wrights did not have any children, they have made it their mission in life to be of service to those in need. They enjoy helping people of all ages, and folks know they can call on them for anything. They include the young and old in all kinds of activities, and they want people to enjoy their time here on earth and create memories to share together. Rick and Cindy Wright have worked tirelessly for over 45 years to create those memories for the Upland community.
