Inscription. The Traveller's Block was erected as headquarters for the North West Commercial Traveller's Association. Architects Darling and Pearson provided many amenities such as meeting rooms, lounges, and even a Turkish bath.

1. Travellers Building.

The Travellers Building is a fine example of the Neo-Classical or Classical Revival style. Popular from 1900 into the 1930s in North America, its designs included columns, capitals, pediments and Greek or Roman embellishments. Built on a heavy stone foundation, the red brick clad, six-storey structure is supported by a system of steel and concrete slabs. Smooth cut stone is used for accenting. underneath the sidewalk. A restaurant and separate kitchen, the boiler room, washrooms and a barber shop were also located below grade. The plans also indicate “Sidewalk Lights over” along the south and east walls. In the early 2000s, the interior was renovated into residential condominiums.

2. Historic Sites of Manitoba: Travellers’ Block.

On 13 January 1917, an honour roll for the Winnipeg Typographical Union was unveiled by Salem Goldworth Bland at a patriotic concert held in the Travellers’ Block. It identified 75 members of the local union who had enlisted for military service in the First World War, some of whom were killed.
