Inscription. Russ Mitchell, born in St. Louis and graduate of Webster Groves High School, completed his education at the University of Missouri. He is an Emmy Award winning journalist, the news anchor for The Early Show & CBS Evening News Sunday Edition, and a correspondent for Sunday Morning. Mitchell is the first black native of St. Louis to serve as a national network news anchor.
