Amsterdams regent, die zowel ten tijde van de Republiek als onder koning Willem I belangrijke functies vervulde bij de marine. Begon zijn loopbaan als advocaat o.a. bij de Admiraliteit van Amsterdam. In 1813 werd hij voorzitter van het voorlopig bestuur van Amsterdam.

(English translation:)

Regent of Amsterdam, who held important positions in the navy both during the Republic and under King Willem I. Started his career as a lawyer at, among others, the Admiralty of Amsterdam. In 1813 he became chairman of the provisional board of Amsterdam.

Overview: Mr. Joan Cornelis van der Hoop (18 May 1742, in The Hague – 13 March 1825, in The Hague) was a Dutch lawyer, public prosecutor and minister and, at the time of the Dutch Republic, fulfilled important positions under king William I and - with the exception of the Batavian-French era - left his mark on the Dutch navy. A street is named after him in Amsterdam.
