Inscription. This restored home is typical of a moderately well=to=do merchant’s house of the 1860’s. It represents the economic stability of Coloma, based on agriculture and lumber, after the initial rush for gold had waned. Chauncy Noteware, the original owner, was elected county recorder in 1855. He was also Coloma’s Wells Fargo agent during the 1850’s. Fred Thomas and his wife Cora lived in this house during the 1900’s and had an extensive vegetable and flower garden.
