1. Edwards House Marker
Inscription. For over a century, the Edwards House, with its commanding columned porch, stood as a landmark on U.S. Highway 11 three miles south of Trussville. According to available history, the house was constructed about 1875 by John Meredith Edwards (1822-1898) replacing an earlier log cabin located on the site. John Meredith was the son of Dr. John Spearman Edwards (1791-1841), a prominent and prosperous physician, the first known to practice medicine in the Trussville vicinity. Dr. Edwards and his wife, Sarah, came to the area in the 1830s.

The last members of the Edwards family to occupy the house were two sons of John Meredith Edwards, Joseph Benjamin and George Sinkler Edwards (1860-1947), who were both born in the log cabin that first occupied the site. Following Joseph's death, George married their housekeeper, Mary Farley, and they continued to live here until 1946 when the house was sold to William Dinken who lived nearby. Over the years, the house was rented to several families including Alvin and Ruby Wade and their five children and James and Louvenia Higdon and their eight children. In later years, it was unoccupied.

In 1992, Dinken's son, William Dinken, Jr., donated the structure to Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. The following year, Steel City Erection & Crane Rental Company and Central Alabama Housemovers
