Peace Rose
Photographed By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), February 10, 2023
"Peace" was named on the day that Berlin fell to the Allies in World War II and won the prestigious AARS Award on the day peace was signed with Japan.
"Peace" is one of the best-known and most widely grown roses of all time. Francis Meilland, a famous French breeder, hybridized it in 1935, and cuttings were sent to the United States by plane from France in 1939. At the opening ceremonies of the United Nations, the head of each delegation was presented with one of its blooms. A Hybrid Tea rose, "Peace" has won numerous awards and is the parent of hundreds of other fine roses, including some in this garden.
