Boyne City in Charlevoix County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
The New Boyne Hotel
Established 1877
| | Boyne City's Historical Past | |
On May 1, 1907, Frank Meyers became the proprietor of the newly remodeled hotel.
A weary traveler could register at the 52 room hotel for two dollars a day. The rooms were clean, light, airy and well furnished and the cuisine irreproachable in substance and service. The hotel had all the conveniences of a modern city hotel including electric lights and a bathroom.
During a severe blizzard on March 7, 1910, the New Boyne went up in flames. The Boyne City Fire Department was unable to save the building. In fact, they sprayed so much water on the fire that a massive sheet of ice covered areas surrounding the burned hotel.
Eventually the rubble was cleared away and Joseph McNamee constructed a grocery and clothing store where the New Boyne once stood. (Marker Number 109.)
