The Odd Fellows Hall
Established 1906
— Boyne City's Historical Past —
The International Order of Odd Fellows built this grand hall in 1906. It was constructed by J.I. Gee and was Boyne's first poured concrete building. The walls are sixteen inches thick and reinforced with rock and railroad ties.
The I.O.O.F's three chain link motif near the top of the building represents friendship, love and trust.
Over the years, many businesses occupied the ground floor including Gardener's, the Post Office, The Citizen, Thompkin's Chicken Hatchery and Dell's Hairdressers to name a few.
The second story rooms were used for the Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodge meetings, family entertainment and pot luck dinners. Often, Friday nights featured big game suppers and a round of boxing. The third floor of the building is actually a balcony which looks down onto the second floor. During the early 1900's, Harry Houdini frequently visited Boyne City to perform his magic shows here.
