1. Railroad Office Building and Marker
This Railroad Office Building served as the Boyne City, Gaylord and Alpena Railroad general office during Boyne's lumbering era.
It is not known when the office building was constructed, but it was first located on the east side of Lake Street in Boyne City across from White's Number One Mill. The evening of June 28, 1918 the mill burned to the ground and the office building was damaged by the fire.
Between September and October of 1918 the building was moved to the northwest corner of Park and Ray Streets, where it now stands. The building was repaired and an addition was built on the rear of the structure. The exterior of the building was bricked. The building continued to serve as the general office building for the BCG&A Railroad, the Boyne City Railroad (1935-1976) and the Boyne Valley Railroad (1976-1980). In 1976 the building was sold by the Boyne Valley Railroad and then was resold in 1982.
The Railroad building was acquired by "The Citizen" in 1994. The newspaper was first published in 1897 as "The Boyne City Enterprise" and the printing office was located on South Lake St. (Marker Number 112.)
