1. Ionia, Michigan Marker
Inscription. Ionia was established in 1833 by Samuel Dexter. Originally, Dexter named the settlement Washington Center. The name was later changed to Ionia County Seat and then shortened to Ionia. In the mid-1800's, Dexter's home and sawmill stood near this site.
