Inscription. This two-story brick building was built by M.H. Palmier in the early 20th Century, it was originally used as a large hall, saloon, billiards room, saddlery and barber shop. Mr. Palmier was a public-spirited individual and served on Prairie du Rocher's Village Board and as the Village Treasurer. when prohibition became the law of the land in 1920, the saloon downstairs became a soda shop, while it is believed the upstairs became a speakeasy that still sold alcohol. Over the years, this building has housed a variety of businesses, from its original uses to a TV Store, Restaurants, Bars and others. The upper floor of the building has been used as a dance hall and has hosted many local events such as bands and school plays. In 1988, the building was rented by Lisa Durbin, who currently owns the building, and has been running Lisa's Market Street Grille ever since.
