Interurban Depot Gasoline Museum. . The murals to the right, depict the history of this Michigan Avenue business site. The interurban depot was located here from 1903 until 1929 at which time the electric railway went out of business. Richard C. Walters, Sr. purchased the vacant depot in 1936 and had the front waiting room removed while keeping the freight storage room intact. He then added a new gas station/tire shop to the front of the building. When the senior Walters retired in 1947, he sold the business to his son Richard C. Walters, Jr. and his son-in-law William C. Dopp, Jr., both recently discharged from the military service. William Dopp later left the partnership and Richard Jr. continued to operate the business. In 1960 he began the first of three different remodels of the original business when he built a new three bay gas station/tire shop. During Richard's years in business on Michigan Avenue, he was an avid collector of gasoline, oil and Marshall memorabilia. In 2009 he converted the vacant former depot freight, storage room into his Walters Gasoline Museum to house his historical collections. Artist David McKee painted the historical murals in 2011.
