Hij was raadspensionaris van Holland en steunpilaar van Johan de Witt tijdens het Eerste Stadhouderloze Tijdperk Hij werkte mee aan het Eeuwig Edict tot afschaffing van het stadhouderschap.

(English translation:)

He was a council pensionary of Holland and mainstay of Johan de Witt during the First Stadtholderless Era. He contributed to the Perpetual Edict to abolish the stadtholdership.
