La Cité du Wauxhall évoque le souvenir d'une construction ephémère elevée en 1785 par les architectes Mellan et Moench. On désignait alors ainsi des jardins publics avec bals et concerts, don’t la mode venait d'Angleterre. Ce Wauxball était une sorte de vaste salon de danse de forme elliptique, communicant par deux escaliers en fer à cheval avec un jardin destiné à accueillir des fêtes et des feux d’artifice. La décoration de ce lieu de plaisir employant toute une gamme néo-gothique inhabituelle dour l'époque. Le Wauxhall disparut en 1841, lors du percement de cette rue. Ce type de construction, faisant largement appel au bois, au stuc et à la toile peinte, ne pouvait d'ailleurs durer longtemps.

The City of Wauxhall evokes the memory of an ephemeral construction erected in 1785 by the architects Mellan and Moench. fireworks. The decoration of this place of pleasure employed a range of neo-Gothic touches, unusual for the period. The Wauxhall disappeared in 1841, during the renovation of this street. This type of construction, making extensive use of wood, stucco and painted canvas, could not last long.
