The original building cost the district $90,000, and the Greenville Independent extolled it as "the most complete school in the state." Standard high school curriculums of the time generally included English, history, science, mathematics and Latin, but Central also offered classes in French, German, trigonometry and psychology, as well as vocational programs in bookkeeping, typing and stenography. The building, located at the south end of Frenklin Street, was razed in 1977.
