1. Nanny Turner Mitchell Marker
Inscription. Nannie Turner Mitchell was born in Alexander City, Alabama. Following her husband's death she assumed his position as president and founder of the St. Louis Argus Newspaper. Because of her strong leadership she went on to receive numerous awards and honors and was officially designated as the "First Lady of the Negro Press."
