1. Phi Beta Kappa Marker
Inscription. Phi Beta Kappa, founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776, is the oldest honorary society in America. Phi Beta Kappa encourages superior scholarship and honors individuals who have distinguished themselves in academic pursuits in the liberal arts. The Kappa Chapter of Virginia was installed at Mary Washington College on February 22, 1971.
