homes across the river. Among these were George Spiegel, of the Mcllvaine and Spiegel Boiler Manufacturing concern, which made boilers for steamboats, who lived at 723 Monroe (1884); and Barney Kroger, founder of the supermarket chain that bears his name, lived for a time at 624 Monroe (1887).
