— Historical Walking Tour —
Upon construction and for many years thereafter, the storefront on the left side of the building was home to the Longwell Brothers' store, while the one on the right was home to the Paw Paw Savings Bank. The bank was incorporated in 1886 and failed during the Great Depression.
The storefront at the rear of the building (along Kalamazoo Street) was for many years a barbershop and afterwards a butcher shop. The second floor consisted of office spaces.
Longwell Brothers Drugs & Groceries passed down to George's two sons: Edgar Brush Longwell (1863-1927) and George W. Longwell, Jr (1866-1945). They operated as partners until 1903, when business disagreements caused them to break up the partnership.
Erected by Paw Paw Historical Commission.
