Inscription. Dr. Henry Givens Jr. was born in St. Louis and graduated from Sumner High and Lincoln University-MO. He was the 1st black to serve as Missouri's Assistant Commissioner of Education. He served as interim president of Lincoln University and became the 1st Black President of Harris Stowe State College.
