Johan Evertsen 1600 - 1666
Nederlands admiraal uit de zeventiende eeuw. Hij voerde vele tochten uit tegen de Duinkerker kapers en werd in 1637 benoemd tot viceadmiraal bij de Admiraliteit van Zeeland. In de gecombineerde Nederlandse vloot stond hij onder bevel van Maarten Tromp. Tijdens de slag tegen de Engelsen, op 3 augustus 1666, werd hem een been afgeschoten. Hij overleed de volgende dag.
Dutch admiral from the seventeenth century. He carried out many raids against the Dunkirk privateers and in 1637 was appointed vice admiral at the Admiralty of Zeeland. In the combined Dutch fleet he was commanded by Maarten Tromp. During the battle against the English, on August 3, 1666, his leg was shot off. He died the next day.
