1. 1777 Encampment Marker
Inscription. The Continental Army camped here from May 28 to July 2, 1777. Advance units were on the slopes facing the Raritan Valley.
 
Erected 1964 by State of New Jersey.

4. Marker in Bridgewater
Some of the fields where the Continental Army camped in 1777 can be seen in the photo beyond the marker. Washington's control of the mountain passes in this area prevented an overland approach to Philadelphia by the British.
