1. Johannes Vermeer Marker
Op deze hoek stond het huis van de Delftse kunstschilder Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). Hij woonde in dit huis, gelegen in de Papenhoek, vanaf 1660 samen met Catharina Bolnes.
In zijn studio op de eerste etage, aan de straatzijde, schilderde Vermeer zijn beroemde stadsgezichten en interieurstukken, overstraald door een wonderlijk licht. Het Vermeerhuis is met het complete interieur in 2002 herbouwd op internet (zie onder).

In seinem Atelier im ersten Stock, zur Straßenseite hin, malte Vermeer seine berühmten Stadtansichten und Interieurs, die in ein seltsames Licht getaucht sind. Das Vermeer-Haus wurde 2002 mit der kompletten Einrichtung auf Internet wieder. rekonstruiert (siehe unten).
C'est dans son atelier, au premier étage à l'avant côté rue, que Vermeer peignit dans un illusionnisme inégale ces célèbres scènes de ville et d'intérieur, des tableaux baignés d'une merveilleuse lumière.
La maison de Vermeer et son intérieur ont été reconstitué en 2002 sur Internet (voir ci- dessous).

Overview: Johannes Vermeer (also known as Jan Vermeer; October 1632 – 15 December 1675) was a Dutch Baroque Period painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. During his lifetime, he was a moderately successful provincial genre painter, recognized in Delft and The Hague. Nonetheless, he produced relatively few paintings and evidently was not wealthy, leaving his wife and children in debt at his death….(Submitted on March 30, 2023.)
His modest celebrity gave way to obscurity after his death. He was barely mentioned in Arnold Houbraken's major source book on 17th-century Dutch painting (Grand Theatre of Dutch Painters and Women Artists) and was thus omitted from subsequent surveys of Dutch art for nearly two centuries. In the 19th century, Vermeer was rediscovered by Gustav Friedrich Waagen and Théophile Thoré-Bürger, who published an essay attributing 66 pictures to him, although only 34 paintings are universally attributed to him today. Since that time, Vermeer's reputation has grown, and he is now acknowledged as one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age.
