1. Rev. Dr. John J. Hicks Marker
Inscription. The Reverend Dr. John J. Hicks, D.D. was born in Bronwood, Georgia and was called to pastor the Union Memorial Methodist Church in St. Louis in 1955. During his pastorate he relocated the church, building a multi-million dollar ultra modern facility. In 1957 he became the first African American ever elected to the St. Louis Board of Education. He was later called to pastor St. Mark's United Methodist Church in New York City in 1964.
