Inscription. Curtis Charles Flood was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Oakland, California. A major league baseball defensive standout who spent most of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Flood refused to be traded and sought relief with the player's union by challenging the league's reserve clause. Even though his request was denied, the reserve clause was struck down in 1975.
