1. Museo Poldi Pezzoli Marker
Inscription.

of the 19th century. In 1850 nobleman Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli decided to set aside one apartment of his family palace as a place in which to display his collections. The renovation project, designed by Giuseppe Balzaretto, created a sequence of rooms decorated in different period styles. In keeping with the eclectic fashion of the time, these spaces were intended as elegant backdrops for the display of ancient artworks and objets d'art. The museum opened in 1881, two years after the death of its founder and in accordance with the terms of his will. It was badly damaged in the air raid attacks of 1943, but after careful restoration reopened to the public in 1951. The magnificent collection includes masterpieces by Pollaiolo, Botticelli, Giovanni Bellini, Mantegna, Piero della Francesca, Tiepolo and Guardi, along with some 3,000 other items (glassware, porcelain, weaponry, carpets, tapestries and timepieces).
