1. Shaw's Pastime Marker
Inscription. The kindly, welcoming figure of Henry Shaw leaning against a garden bench was designed to incorporate a representation of Shaw and a welcome place for visitors to sit and rest. The vines that makes up the bench recall Shaw's 1884 publication, The Vine and Civilization. In it Shaw writes of the history of wine vines beginning before Homer's time. His interest in wine spanned throughout his lifetime and at the time of his death, he had a large collection.
