Inscription. George Englemann (1809-1884) was a world-famous botanist and a scientific advisor to Henry Shaw. Engelmann practiced medicine by day and studied plants by night. Described as a man of exceptional intelligence, he was an excellent physician and a civic-minded gentleman. This bust, by Paul T. Granlund, is based on the photos of Engelmann and features motifs of the plants he was most interested in: conifers, cacti, grapes, and the Engelmann spruce.
